A healthy brain requires a healthy body, and for that you need a healthy lifestyle. There are many aspects to a healthy lifestyle. Nutrition: Maintaining a balanced and nutritious diet takes a conscious effort in our society. Think of how many ads you see for fresh vegetables compared to those for greasy, salty snacks, sodas, candy, burgers, etc. Are you getting enough fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats and oils? Besides nutrition, what you put in your mouth is also important when it comes to caffeine, alcohol, and other drugs of abuse. Are you drinking too much alcohol or caffeinated beverages? Exercise: Regular exercise is important for a healthy body and brain. Regular physical exercise has been proven in clinical studies to decrease anxiety and depression, help significantly with stress management, and improve the quality of sleep at night. Speaking of sleep, that is another part of a healthy lifestyle. It is best to work with your body’s clock, and maintain a regular schedule for when you go to bed at night and when you get up in the morning. Aim for getting 7 to 8 hours if you can.
